About Ray

Hair for who you are now.

I specialize in mature and changing hair in Austin, Texas. I help people who don't fit into the one-size-fits-all world of trends, creating bespoke haircuts and hair colors that meet you where you are at this stage of your life — with the hair you have today, not the hair you had in your 20s.

My passion

I love giving a guest something they never thought was possible before. A haircut that isn't choppy, is easy to style and grows out beautifully. A hair color that effortlessly makes you look younger without looking like you're trying too hard.

Training & background

I was lucky enough to go to beauty school in high school and got my license the summer of '96. My first big hair show was my senior year, at the Redken Symposium in Las Vegas — and that early taste of how energizing education is in this industry has stuck with me ever since.

I spent a full summer traveling back and forth to California to study with a hair color chemist, a hair color creator and a colorist, learning more than I ever could have imagined about hair color. I've traveled to New York City to study with Bumble and Bumble and industry greats such as Vivienne Mackinder.

I believe a big part of a stylist's skill is how well-rounded their education is. I love cutting with scissors as much as with a razor — it all depends on the look my guest is going for. I take classes every year, and last summer I went to Greece to train in scalp care and the Scacial.

My philosophy

The very best hairstyles are the ones that suit your hair, schedule, face shape, skin tone and lifestyle — and make you appear how you want others to see you.

What I believe

Knowing you as a person — not just another head of hair.

Learning about your lifestyle, your desires, and your limitations is what lets me create a color or precision cut you'll love — and one you can actually maintain between appointments.

I believe in teaching, not just doing.

My job isn't finished when you leave the chair — it's finished when you know how to recreate that look yourself. I take the time to show you the techniques and products that actually work for your hair, so you leave with more than a great cut or color. You leave with confidence.

I believe your hair has no expiration date.

So many women come to me after being told that at their age, they should play it safe — go darker, cut it shorter, tone it down. I don't believe that, and neither should you. My job is to prove that beautiful, vibrant hair isn't something you age out of.
